The topic “The implementation of LIFE projects as a tool for nature conservation in the Azores” will be presented by Cátia Freitas.
Cátia Freitas holds a Master’s degree in Biodiversity and Plant Biotechnology from the University of the Azores. From 2012 to 2019, she worked as a technician at the Faial Botanic Garden, where she was responsible for the technical implementation of the projects PCT-MAC BIOCLIMAC, CWR, Zephyr and PCT-INTERREG MACFLOR (MAC/4.6d/190). During this period, she also coordinated the work of the Azores Seed Bank, based at the Botanic Garden.
From 2019 to 2021, she was Assistant Manager of the LIFE VIDALIA project (LIFE17 NAT/PT/000510), which worked on three Azorean islands to conserve two endangered endemic species, the Azorina vidalii and the Lotus azoricus.
In 2021, she left the LIFE VIDALIA project to head the Flora and Fauna Division of the Regional Directorate for the Environment and Climate Change. Since January 2022, she has been a technician in that division and coordinator of the Azores Seed Bank.
