The school EB/JI de Ribeiras on the island of Pico marked the end of the school year with a trip to Lagoa do Caiado, followed by planting endemic trees in the intervention area of the LIFE BEETLES project.

This environmental volunteering activity follows a series of activities that the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action provided to this school throughout the school year through the educational offer of the LIFE BEETLES project. After the ‘Insects under the magnifying glass’ activity and support in making Carnival costumes, trees were planted in the Caiado Lagoon.

Over two days, we welcomed 28 students who helped plant 320 trees, including Short Leafed Juniper, Azorean Heather and Azorean Blueberry. In the long term, this will improve the habitat of the Ground Beetle, a beetle endemic to the island of Pico.
