Today we had the opportunity to gather the Advisory Board in order to discuss the most challenging topics of the project. We counted with the presence of multiple specialists in nature conservation, namely:
Paulo Borges – Leader of the Azorean Biodiversity Group and Co-Chair of the Mid-Atlantic Island Invertebrate Specialist Group (MAIISG)
Vicky Wilkins – Co-Chair of the Mid-Atlantic Island Invertebrate Specialist Group (MAIISG)
Axel Hochkirch – Chair of the IUCN SSC Invertebrate Conservation Committee
PJ Stephenson – Chair of the IUCN SSC Species Monitoring Specialist Group
António Machado – Entomologist of the Canary Islands and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Nature Conservation
Also present were the members of the LIFE BEETLES Project Management Team as well as the representatives of the Island Nature Parks.
The meetings of the advisory board are part of Action F.2 – Governance and Advisory Boards, which aims to improve the implementation of the project’s work, continuing good governance practices that can help mitigate any problems, through the counseling of experts in the field.
In this first meeting the expert guidance was initiated regarding the control of invasive species, namely Hedychium gardnerianum, the application of strategies on Nature Based Solutions (NBS) in specific intervention areas as well as the improvement on techniques for awareness raising.
We want to thank everyone involved for the constructive discussion of the various topics, focusing essentially on finding solutions for the practical conservation actions.
We embrace this knowledge exchange in order to be able to implement the best practices of governance and actions execution, in order to achieve our goals and contribute positively to the preservation of our invertebrates!
