In December, the LIFE BEETLES project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, organised its 2nd Technical Workshop, held online.

The event began with a speech by Dr Teresa Ferreira, who presented the LIFE BEETLES project, highlighting its methodologies, progress and objectives achieved to date. Next, the manager of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, Diana Pereira, addressed practical questions about combating the main invasive species that threaten the classified areas of the Azores.

Essential to any nature conservation project, fieldwork monitoring was the topic presented by Dr Tarso Costa, a technician at the SPEA – Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds.

Last but not least, the need and importance of communication with civil society were discussed based on the premise that we can only protect what we know.

The workshop was attended by around 90 participants from various institutions linked to nature conservation and public and private organisations, not only from the Azores archipelago but also from Madeira and mainland Portugal.
