The LIFE BEETLES project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, has as one of its objectives the conversion of a eucalyptus forest into a native forest to increase the potential habitat of the project’s target species (Ground Beetle) on Terceira island. This process involves the removal of eucalyptus trees, followed by the planting of endemic species.
One of the project’s recurring actions after planting is monitoring these plantations to check the survival rate, phytosanitary status, and growth of these plants. This work helps define the next actions in the field, such as reinforcing the planting or changing methodologies.
