The LIFE BEETLES project hosted the Junta de Núcleo da Terceira of the National Scout Corps for a volunteer activity in intervention areas TER3 and TER4, which enabled 160 native trees (Firetree and Azorean Laurel) to be planted and invasive species, namely the Kahili Ginger, to be removed.
The TER3 area was an old eucalyptus grove which, after its removal by clear-cutting, will give way to a native forest. Area TER4 is a mixed forest of eucalyptus trees, which have been removed, giving the understorey a chance to grow, full of native plant species and a great diversity of lichens and mosses.
This activity was attended by the Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Action, Alonso Miguel, and with the collaboration of Terceira’s Environment and Climate Change Service, through Park Rangers, Senior Official and Operational Assistants, as well as the LIFE BEETLES project.
