A Custody of Nature agreement was signed last July 4th between the Municipality of São Roque do Pico and the Regional Directorate for the Environment, under action C.3 – Pilot works to increase habitat for Pseudanchomenus aptinoides and related ecosystem services. These actions aim at the renaturalization of pasture areas surounding Lagoa do Caiado (owned by the Municipality of São Roque do Pico), which serves as a water supply to the population of the municipality of São Roque do Pico. In the long term, this partnership is expected to bring benefits to both parties, since the work carried out will not only improve the availability of habitat to the endemic beetle Pseudanchomenus aptinoides, but also reduce runoff, improving water retention and infiltration at Lagoa do Caiado.
